When I was a little kid, I made up an animal called the Horned Jackal, and it looked an awful lot like this, even the markings on its face. I drew lots of pictures of it and even made a fake Zoobook about it.

This is amazing! It looks like a cross between a dragon and a dog with feline eyes. Although the proportions might not be completely biologically possible, the animal does look nice and it is amusing, and that's what art is all about. It's pretty awesome how it looks so realistic but at the same time like something from a storybook. Do you mind if I create a story about this animal and come up with a name for it?

Why a carnivore should have antlers like those? And such think neck with a huge jaws like those.
I think this creature biology should be revised. The fake materials work, on the other hand.

dragons often have long necks and similar antler like horns (especially in chinese mythology)
I think it's quite enjoyable.

Dragons are reptilian creatures, and many species of dinosaurs and lizards (i.e. iguanas) have horns or something like those on their heads by different reasons. Dragons are inspired in those after all.

Mammals, on the other hand, have not. Only hervibores have, and they haven't massive teeth (just Muntjack deers and mouse-deers have long fangs, but because they cannot deal with antlers). And if you have a such big jaw, just need a massive neck to hold up your head--->It isn't fantasy, it's just common-sense.

There are many different types of dragons. Some dragons have fur on them, just like a mammal. This looks like a cross between a dog of some sort and an Eastern Dragon. The typical dragon people think of is a large, scaly, and fierce reptile with four limbs, wings, and horns. However, there are dragons with fur and deer-like antlers. There are even dragons without wings. And most dragons had long, thin necks with large, muscular heads, as much as it goes against common sense. But being fictitious and creatures of magic, the mind is free to do what it pleases when creating one. And since this is clearly a creature of fantasy, it is okay if the proportions don't match that of any existing creature. Art is all about letting the mind wander, and even if it isn't completely bilogically possible, it is still eye-pleasing and amusing.

I'm familiar with many myths around the world, and basically dragons always have been a free interpreation of fosil creatures.
And not, I'm not saying the dragon of the last fantasy best-seller book around, but the original dragon creature from certain myths (Fei-Ling in chinese myths--->a serpetn with antlers, Fafner in Norse myths--->a crocodrile with wings). The result is always the same: mixed real creatures.

Therefore, even fantasy always work mixing real things. And real things are just...real.
Your creature (and I'm not saying it's wrong done in terms of matherial and texture) is that: an antelope with dog-like face that barely can held up its head and has no throat.

In the same way that movies like "Batman" take care of physical laws for doing such awesome vehicles, people that make up new animals should take care of biology.

If some fantasy thing should be beliaved, it also should be realistic.

All the same it's very interesting to look at which tends to be the point of art.
I understand where you're coming from. Biologically this animal or beast would not exist based on the laws of our world but imagination and artistic creation doesn't need to be limited by the laws of science and biology or reality. It is simply creativity and that can be anything the mind wants.

Indeed! Arguing about what non-existant creatures are allowed to be depicted is ridiculous. It's supposed to be pretty, not functional. It would probably look quite different if that's what I had been going for O_o

Ya that was my point exactly. I don't think physical law or real biology have any say in art -- unless it's a textbook; that's about it. Especially when this has no relation to machines at all, I don't understand how that is even part of your argument... The idea of a fantastical creature is for it to be a fantasy. Something not real.

Anyway I think your beast looks wonderful. Laws of nature and science aside it's a fun blend of things that makes it very interesting to look at. I love the blue of the eyes and the horns really do remind me of a Chinese dragon. It almost looks like some epic mythical beast and makes me wonder what it looked like before it was a head on the wall.

Creativity is one thing, physical laws is the base and it's what defines if one thing works or doesn't work. How many times a new machine just doesn't work because the physical laws are ignored? It's even more obvious for living beings.
It's annoying to see a fantasy creature just is impossible because it overviews even the most basic concepts about motion, for example. Your creature is basically a Pronghorn with wolf jaws and a cat eye collage. If you used those for making it up, it should make sense by itself.

Listen your trying to argue about a piece of art, Im guessing you complained when you saw Dali's Persistance of Memory that a clock melted over a ledge would just fall off and not hang there. It is to be taken as it is, a FAKE taxidermy beast. I could complain all day that the grim reaper wouldn't be able to keep his bones together while moving and guiding souls, but its ok because he is a figment of our imagination. Art comes from our imagination and just because one person decides not to care about being realistic with their work does not give another the right to literally pick it apart because of that fact. There is no final judge in art on what can or cannot be, this creature may not be realistic but the Artist did an amazing job with it and it turned out to be an incredible piece. If you want to complain about a work of art go comment on those just posting pictures of their genitalia, not on a piece someone has worked hours to see it come to life.
