You did a fantastic job with the realism here, it actually looks like an animal that you could encounter. Amazing!

What did you use for the fur? I mean, how did you make the fur look so realistic?

I made all of it, I don't use pre-made taxidermy pieces. Base shape is sculpted foam and fibreglass, mouth parts are super sculpey, and the eyes are hand painted glass domes.
Thank you!

Ya that was my point exactly. I don't think physical law or real biology have any say in art -- unless it's a textbook; that's about it. Especially when this has no relation to machines at all, I don't understand how that is even part of your argument... The idea of a fantastical creature is for it to be a fantasy. Something not real.

Anyway I think your beast looks wonderful. Laws of nature and science aside it's a fun blend of things that makes it very interesting to look at. I love the blue of the eyes and the horns really do remind me of a Chinese dragon. It almost looks like some epic mythical beast and makes me wonder what it looked like before it was a head on the wall.

Listen your trying to argue about a piece of art, Im guessing you complained when you saw Dali's Persistance of Memory that a clock melted over a ledge would just fall off and not hang there. It is to be taken as it is, a FAKE taxidermy beast. I could complain all day that the grim reaper wouldn't be able to keep his bones together while moving and guiding souls, but its ok because he is a figment of our imagination. Art comes from our imagination and just because one person decides not to care about being realistic with their work does not give another the right to literally pick it apart because of that fact. There is no final judge in art on what can or cannot be, this creature may not be realistic but the Artist did an amazing job with it and it turned out to be an incredible piece. If you want to complain about a work of art go comment on those just posting pictures of their genitalia, not on a piece someone has worked hours to see it come to life.

Wow, that's awesome. I'm sure someone could come up with some crazy stories that a lot of gullible people would believe.

When I was a little kid, I made up an animal called the Horned Jackal, and it looked an awful lot like this, even the markings on its face. I drew lots of pictures of it and even made a fake Zoobook about it.

Amazing! *A*
zarathus Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2013   Artisan Crafter
Indeed! Arguing about what non-existant creatures are allowed to be depicted is ridiculous. It's supposed to be pretty, not functional. It would probably look quite different if that's what I had been going for O_o
